Call to find out more about our concussion management services

Concussion Management

A concussion is a type of traumatic brain injury (TBI) caused by a bump, blow or jolt to the head that can change how your brain works. Concussions can also occur from a fall or blow to the body that causes the head and brain to move quickly back and forth. Even a minor concussion can cause symptoms that last for days or weeks.

A concussion is a complex pathophysiological process affecting the brain, induced by biomechanical forces. Several common features that incorporate neurological, neuropsychological, and neuroimaging abnormalities may be used in defining the nature of a concussive head injury.

Concussion Management

It is essential to seek medical attention if you or a loved one has suffered a concussion. The most common treatment is rest. During the healing process, the injured individual should limit physical activity and any other activity that could lead to a repeat concussion. Other treatment options include:

Oral pain relievers and anti-inflammatory drugs may be prescribed to help with headaches, neck pain, and other symptoms.

Physical therapy may be recommended to help with balance, coordination, and headaches.

Occupational therapy may be recommended to help with attention and memory problems.
